Albany International Airport to Host “Fear of Flying” Course June 4, 2026 with Dr. Randall and Capt. Weiss

LATHAM, N.Y. – Albany International Airport will host a special “Fear of Flying” course on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Albany International Airport Fire House, 10 Jetway Drive, Latham, NY 12110. The two-hour program is designed for individuals whose fear of flying or other phobias keep them from traveling for work, family, or leisure.

The course will be led by Capital Region–based psychiatrist Dr. Griffan Randall, D.O., who has extensive experience treating anxiety, panic disorders, and phobias. Dr. Randall will explain what drives fear responses, discuss common phobias—including aerophobia, the extreme fear of flying—and share practical, evidence-based techniques participants can begin using right away to manage their symptoms.

Participants will also hear from retired Capt. Rick Weiss, a former Southwest Airlines pilot and U.S. Army helicopter pilot, who will demystify the technical side of commercial aviation. Capt. Weiss will explain how modern aircraft operate, address concerns about turbulence, weather, and in-flight sounds, and answer questions to help attendees replace worst-case scenarios with a clearer understanding of how flying actually works.

Anxiety disorders are common, and the fear of flying can have a serious impact on a person’s quality of life,” said Dr. Randall. “With the right tools and support, this anxiety is treatable, and the goal of this course is to help people take the first step toward reclaiming the freedom to travel.”

“Over more than four decades of military and commercial flying, I’ve met many people who desperately wanted to travel but felt held back by what they imagined could go wrong,” said Capt. Weiss. “By walking through how airplanes are designed, maintained, and operated, we can replace fear with knowledge and a greater sense of control.”

The registration fee for the course is $125, payable by check to Dr. Griffan Randall. Space is limited to help ensure a supportive, small-group environment where participants feel comfortable asking questions and sharing concerns.
